Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you teach?

I teach in-person lessons out of my home studio in West Palm Beach, Florida, in addition to offering virtual lessons via Forte Lessons and over FaceTime.

How often are lessons?

As often as you like! I update my calendar regularly with available time slots, and all lesson times are first-come, first-serve. Most students opt for weekly or twice monthly lessons, while others book a handful in a row if preparing for an upcoming audition or interested in intense study. I work with beginners and professionals alike and am here to serve you at your stage in your development.

What do I do if I don't see a time that works for me on the booking calendar?

I update my booking calendar multiple times a week, so don't be discouraged if you don't initially find a time that works with your schedule. Refresh the calendar often to see if new slots have opened up. If you are interested in setting up a weekly recurring lesson or are still having no luck, feel free to email me at dorothygalstudio@gmail.com and I'll see what I can do!

Do you teach beginners?

Absolutely! I generally work with voice students ages 12+, but am happy to make exceptions in special cases. Piano students must be able to read before enrolling.

What do I do if I need to cancel?

Be sure to cancel via the link Appointlet sends you with your calendar day/time reservation with at least 24 hrs notice and/or email me at dorothygalstudio@gmail.com ASAP. Out of respect for studio members that are left unable to book your slot, all no-shows or late-cancels will be charged 50% of lesson fee (unless in the event of a true emergency). Students will be unable to book future lessons until this fee is paid.

For how long are lesson packages valid?

Packages are valid for 6 months from date of purchase. After this time, any unused lessons will be forfeited. Lessons may be gifted or used by the purchaser.

Are lesson books and sheet music included in the price of lessons?

No - Piano students must purchase their own piano lesson books and voice students must bring sheet music or anthology books to lessons. I am happy to send links to level-appropriate materials to purchase after our initial lesson. I occasionally share PDF scans of music I own, but it is the student's responsibility to ensure their music is printed, 3-hole punched, ideally double-sided (not in plastic sleeves), and organized in a binder. Two copies of music is preferable for voice students, as I often accompany students at the piano while they sing a few feet away at a music stand.

What if I want to take both piano and voice lessons?

Please leave a note in the comment section of your Appointlet reservation if you'd like hybrid lessons! I'm happy to cater lessons to what you want to achieve and your goals. I suggest booking a 50 minute slot if this is the case, or select two separate lesson times, so we have ample time to dig into each discipline!

What do I bring to lessons?

Bring any lesson books, anthologies, or music binders containing music you'd like to work on. A pencil, small notebook for writing down assignments, and bottle of water are highly recommended. Feel free to bring a device to record lessons, if desired. Parents and siblings are welcome to sit in living room or outside patio during lessons, but please be mindful of distractions.
